LONDON REPRESENTATION
MR' BRUCE’S INTENTIONS. j j * “CANNOT BE EXTENDED,** United Press Assn—Elec. Tel. Copyright (Received Feb. 22, i p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 21. Mr S. M. Bruce, who was a guest at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce annual luncheon, made his first public pronouncement regarding future Australian representation in London. He said: “I cannot ‘believe the system of maintaining a Cabinet Minister in London will be extended by Australia or followed by other Dominions. I am here as a Minister still In' the Government to do certain specified jobs, after which I shall return to Australia. We may temporarily continue keeping 60me minister here but it is unlikely that we shall always he able to spare one. Consequently we shall probably revert to the system of High Commissioners which, after all, worked fairly well.” In a subsequent interview Mr Bruce declined to amplify his luncheon remarks regarding the policy of London representation, but said the specific Jobs referrd to may now be rgarded as almost entirely financial. Mr Bruce, however, commenced to ocoupy the official residence at Ennismore Gardens only in January. This, with other factors, may be interpreted as meaning that he will stay at leasjl another three months.
