AMBASSADOR ARRIVES.
CONFERENCE WITH MR ROOBEVELT GENERAL PROBLEMS DISCUSSED. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright NEW YORK, Feb. 20. The British Ambassador, Sir Ronald Lindsay, arrived back from London to-day and immediately conferred with the President-elect, Mr. Roosevelt. After the conference Mr. Roosevelt announced that “broader aspects of the world's economic and other situations ” had been discussed. He said the conversation would be resumed at an early date. As soon as Mr. Roosevelt has chosen his Secretary of State, he said, he would ask him and Sir Ronald to work on the problems Involved. The British Ambassador had given him unofficially his own views that those of the British Government. The conversation was confine ! ‘o the general aspect of the p:-oh>’i..-: and no specific proposals relating !o the World Economic Conference or inter-Govern-ment debts were discussed. The conference lasted two hours. Upon leaving Mr. Roosevelt’s home Sir Ronald said he concurred in the statement made by Mr. Roosevelt. LATER. MR ROOSEVELT’S GESTURE. MEETS FRENCH AMBASSADOR. Roosevelt, conferred with the French Ambassador, M. Paul Claudel on Tuesday, indicating that following Monday’s conference with Sir Ronald Lindsay, Mr Roosevelt Is pointing the way towards an early economic conference. Before receiving M. Claudel, Mr Roosevelt gathered about him a formidable group of economic and diplomatic authorities, headed by Mr Bernard Baruch, the New York financier, and Professor Raymond Moley, the war debts expert. These advisers had withdrawn when M. Claudel arrived.
