DECISION IN KANSAS.
PREFERENCE TO THE FORMER. Women, not. machines, arc to-day die chief danger of modern civilisation. For len years past they have been taking men's jobs in increasing numbers, thereby causing in a large measure the, present epidemic of unemployment. This did tun, by Professor Paul Converse, of Illinois University, lias already influenced the Federal Government, which is adopting measures designed to decrease Ihe number of women employees in Washington, stales Ihe Daily Alail.
A decision taken by the Kansas City Power and Light Company show’s that it is likely to lie adopted as Hie oor-ner-slone of their -employment policy by industrial concerns generally. “We recognise,” says tho Kansas Company, "Mio stabilising- influence of a family home, and wc appreciate the necessity of providing young men with employment which will permit Ihem to marry. "Therefore we are taking steps gradually to employ more men.” The decree of the company’s directors is: "No more married women are to be employed by us." The hardships of this decree are .to hr temporarily alleviated as follows: "Wc do not ask married women already employed to resign at. this time, but any single woman employed by us must resign if she marries after July I. Single women intending to marry, and desiring to retain Ihelr employment. must marry on or before that (ia to.’’
