TECHNICAL. GIRLS’. EVENTS.

ANNUAL PROGRAMME TO-MORROW Elimination rounds for the girls’ swimming sports ' of the -Hamilton Technical High ' School Sports ' were held at the Municipal Baths yesterday. The sports will be held early tomorrow afternoon. Three girls have entered for the senior school championship and five for the junior. Competition in both events' is likely to he good, as several of the girls have been prominent during the season in outside events. The house competition, always a feature of the sports, will he as keenly contested as usual and much interest will be centred in the junior and senior house relays.

ANNETTE KELLERMAN CUP. WON BY OTAGO GIRL. NAPIER, Tuesday. ■The three miles race,for the Annette Kellerman Cup, held in conjunction with- the national swimming championships, took -place at the breakwater to-day in .perfect weather and in a perfectly calm sea. There were 16 competitors from Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay, Wellington, Canterbury, Taranaki, Otago and .West Coast. Six completed the distance.

Following were the results: —Miss M. Mat-hieson (Otago), lo ,1; Miss J. Logie (Wellington), 131 m, 2; Miss F. Ryan (Wellington), 7m, 3; Miss F. Clarke (Wellington), scr., 4; Miss S. Miller (Hawke’s Bay), 12Jm,.5; Miss D. A. Paveley (Canterbury), 131 m, 6.

AUCKLAND WITHDRAWS. "TOO PETTY FOR COMMENT.” NAPIER, Wednesday. After Auckland’s application for next years' championships had been defeated -In favour of Canterbury, at the anpual conference of swimming centres, -Mr L. Kenny said:—“l have been instructed by my centre to inform the conference that Auckland will now definitely not be represented at the next championships.” Mr P. -Coira (Wellington) : That is not a sporting move. It is not fair -to swimmers.

'-Mr Kenny: The centre cannot bear the 'cost 'o-C representation. The chairman, Mr G. Bryant, the New Zealand Council’s representative, said lie was surprised at the Auckland Centre’s decision. A Delegate: The matter is 'too petty lor comment. 1 At a 'later stage Mr 11. 11. 'Fraser (South Canterbury) said he hoped the Auckland Centre would reconsider its decision. It was not really playing cricket for a centre -to withdraw from a meeting just 'because it was beaten on a 'resolution.

Mr Kenny said his centre had discussed the matter fully, and a definite decision had been reached that Auckland would not patronise any meeting away from Auckland. However, he would place the conference’s views before i't.

AUSTRALIANS FOR NEW ZEALAND. TO SAIL ON MARCH 2. SYDNEY, Feb. 21. The New South Wales Swimming Association has given its sanction to four swimmers, Victor Besomo, Carl Phillips, Owen Griffiths and Frank Griffiths, touring New Zealand, and they will probably .leave on March 2.
