BURMA AND INDIA. AN AMAZING ELECTION. A MISTAKEN IMPRESSION. United Press Assn.—Rler. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Nov. 17. Despatches from 'Calcutta state that Burma has decided.that she must remain an integral part of India, for in the most amazing election since the deposition of King Thibiw, the antlseparationists gained - a sweeping victory over those who wanted Burma to he free of the Indian yoke. In the House of Commons to-day, in reply to a question about the Burmese election, the Secretary of State for India, Sir Samuel Iloare, said that according to the ■ latest information he had received the position was: Anti-separationist parties, 39 seats; separationist parties, 29; neutrals, 9. There were three results to come. There was good reason to believe that many of those who voted for antiseparationist candidates were still under the ' mistaken impression that it would be open to Burma to enter the Indian federation on terms that would enable her to' leave when she wished. Sir Samuel said that the Prime Minister, Mr MacDonald, had indicated on January 12, and lie himself had stated in sufficiently plain terms on June 27, that this was not a contingency the Government was prepared to 1 contemplate. 'The alternatives before Burma were: On the one hand separation from India in the immediate future and the pursuit of her own political destiny; and on the other, entry into the Indian federation, in which case she would remain a province of India and be treated exactly in the same way as any other province and have no means at her disposal for withdrawing from the federation.'
