FRAUD BY BUTCHER.

A SERIES OF IMPOSTURES. ONE YEAR’S IMPRISONMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. Frank Walter Barnes (33), butcher, was imprisoned to-day for a series of impostures. He opened a butchery, stocked it with meat obtained from three firms by false pretences, and collected £62 from several young men, whom he induced to deposit bonds, on the undertaking that he would give them jobs. The police said the majority of the young men had been unemployed for a long time, and some had borrowed the money for the bonds. Accused had been convicted at Timaru, Nelson, Christchurch and Wellington for false pretences. Accused was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment.
