RIOTS IN OTTAWA. UNEMPLOYED DEMONSTRATE. POLICE CHARGE THE CROWD. OTTAWA, Aug. 2. Half an hour’s rioting followed an attempt by 500 delegates to the “Workers’ Economic Conference” to hold a mass demonstration at Ottawa during the afternoon. The mob consisted mostly of workless people, who converged on the capital from ail parts of Canada, and came even from the Pacific Coast, Adding the reds” of freight ’rains, and included 40 ex-slodiers vino had tramped from Montreal, for the express purpose of demonstrati, g while the Imperial Conference was sitting. The police charged the gathering in the market square, using their batons and fists freely. They broko up the crowd, arresting thirteen, including two women. Before the- riot, began a “workloss army,” to some hundreds strong (including a sprinkling of women) marched past the Chateau Laurler singing “The Red Flag.” Many wore red caps and arm bands. BODY EXHUMED. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The body of a man buried in January was exhumed by the police tiiis morning. 'Sensations! developments are anticipated.
