HINEMOA PARK.
FOR SCHOOL SPORT. DECISION OF DOMAIN BOARD* TWO APPLICATIONS CONSIDERED. The future of Hinemoa Park was definitely decided by the Hamilton Domain Board last night, when, after the applications of two sports bodies for a lease of the area had been considered, a recommendation previously in the minutes to the effect that the park should be set aside as a sports ground for the schools of Hamilton, was adopted. Prior to this step being taken the application of the -°uth ~nd Football Association and the Hamilton Athletic Association for a combined lease was before the meeting. v A deputation representing the two bodies waited on the board last night in support of the application. Mr H. R, Fallwell, representing the Athletia,. Association, said that the two associations felt that by working together they could give the Domain Board sufficient guarantee to warrant the board giving them a lease. Mr F. Mead, the other- member of •the deputation, said that the Football Association had been established in Hamilton for many years, and had always cherished the ambition to have a ground of its own. Some four years ago there was talk of the League code going off Hinemoa Park, and on this occasion the Domain Board had promised to consider the association’s application. Seddon Park was difficult to control so far as charging for admission was concerned, while the ground was not the most suitable for association football. The game was receiving good support in Hamilton, and had achieved considerable success in the past few seasons in interunion fixtures, which attracted large crowds. The Seddon Park ground was not the best on which to play, these matches, and if the application for,a lease of Hinemoa Park was granted a ground in keeping with the ideals of tiie association would be made available. The membership of the football and Amateur Athletio Associations was considerable, and the ground would be in use all the year round. After the deputation had retired the board considered the arguments put forward by the delegates. The acting-chairman pointed out that there was a recommendation in the minutes to the effect that Hinemoa Park should be set aside as a sports ground for the primary and secondary schools. After consideration the chairman moved that the recommendation should he adopted.—The motion wa3 carried. It was decided to notify the Football and Athletic Associations to this effect.
