THE CUP CARNIVAL. TRAINING AT RICCARTON. THIS MORNING’S GALLOPS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ’CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The weather was fine for training operations at Riccarton this morning. The outside of. the course proper and the plough were in good order. On No. 6 grass track Kakara went seven furlongs in 1.30. Palace and Tautbow went well over six furlongs in 1.15 2-5. On the course proper Manifesto and Arrowmald covered five furlongs in 1.4. Meprisant and Rirl galloped a 'mile In 1.43 1-5. Solwit, Nightflyer and Miss Bradbury went five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. Martian Chief and Rose of Orange ran a mile and a quarter in 2.15. * Clmabue got to the end of five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. Crioket Bat was sent a mile and a quarter with Zeebrugge going well with him over the last mile. The former registered 2.10, which, was a good gallop. Croupier and Kozan ran five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. Gay Crest and Adelphi were not troubled to record 1.31 3-5 for seven furlongs. Dunraven, Semper Paratus and Jason’s Quest ran the same distance in 1.30 4-5. Juniper showed plenty of dash over half a mile in 49 2-5; Tout Le Mond took 50 2-5, while Volga Boatman and Michael Angelo returned 49 4-5. Gustavo and Charmeuse registered 1.14 2-5 for six furlongs. This was a good gallop. Great Star Shows Up. Great Star dashed over five furlongs in i.2 1-5, doing the last half mile in 49secs. Compris and Charmalne ran nine furlongs in 1.56 from a standing start. They finished on well, Compris having a slight advantage. Nightguard and Rational 11. got to the end of seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5. Ravine beat Tarqulnius over six furlongs in 1.16 1-5; Eclair taking 1.18 3-5. Latin Quarter and Ruling Light got to the end of a ■rile and a quarter in 2.12 3-5. The last mile took 1.46 4-5. On the plough, Ladty Pam and Actaeon ran seven furlongs comfortably in 1.31. Babel ran six furlongs in 1.17; Ball Dress and Owlsflight taking 1.18, while Moorbird covered the distance in 1.15 1-5. The latter effort was the best of the morning on this track. A Useful Effort. View Halloo beat Spoon by a neck, with Fiji a length away at the end of seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5. This was a good gallop. Admiral Drake and 'Black Duke galloped a mile and a-quartcr in 2.12. They kept together all the way. Nightmare placed six furlongs behind in t.I9J, going easily. Ephialtes was timed to run a mile and a-quarter in 2.11, takng 39s for Hie lasi three furlongs. Gay Court and Lady Vane moved freely over six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. Bronze Eagle. Peter Jackson, Gibraltar and Barbacan galloped seven furlongs. Bronze Eagle 'trailed the others for half a mile and then dashed past, them to score easily in 1.32. Mount Boa and Chief Light ran six

furlongs in 1.17 2-5. They finished together hut Mount Boa was conceding her coiripanion weight.

The Viscount and Fortune’s Wheel' ran six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, while Quantum registered 1.16, for a similar distance, showing great dash in the early stages. Gourmet gave a good display over four hurdles clearing out over the last part from Landmark whose display was poor. Captain’s Gift jumped four hurdles in great style. Lorigan, Is going hack, but may settle in Melbourne. Phar Lap has been scratched for the Linlithgow Stakes, to be run tomorrow, but if he is all right, will start on Saturday in the Fisher Plate. A conference of leading racing olubs held at Melbourne to-day decided not to register any horse unless it is branded.
