Many horses with good chances fell in [lie Grand National Hurdles. Chief amongst lhe fallen was Prince Lu. who had led lhe field for two miles mil was practically certain of a place. On lhe other hand. Callamart thoroughly merited his win. He was never further back than third and when first Amorist amt then Prince Lu went out in front of him he was left with a iireat winning chance. He completely outstayed all his opponents at the finish. The real surprise of the race was the showing of Lancer. With only one race last season, and that last month, and an unplaced performance in the Jumper's Flat on Tuesday, in which he finished last, he was nevertheless a very dangerous opponent to the winner, and if he had scored, his win would have been one of the most sensational in the history of the race. High Pitch was too far hack early to have any chance, hut finished right over everything bar the first two. Another wonderful improvement was shown by Apache, who was in the picture all the way and finished fourth. Membo was fifth. Wiltshire ran a remarkably good race to finish sixth, and Carinthia was next. Tho judicial committee investigated a complaint by 11. Ihilieu. rider of Carin’t.hM. who alleged that V. Campbell, rider o( High Pitch, had interfered with him by crossing just before reaching the stand the first lime round. The complaint was dismissed. F. Foster, the rider of Prince Lu, was sent to hospital suffering from head injuries. A. E Ellis escaped with a severe shaking when Make Up fell while E. Mackie, the rider of Antrim Boy had his back injured.
