GOLD-BEARING REEFS.
SOME PROMISING STONE RETURNS AT THAMES. (By Telegraph.—P«*ess Association.) THAMES. Friday. On Thursday some Maori claimholders, who have been putting in levels at ■the Kaka claim at Tapu, were successful in culling an entirely new reef, obtaining a considerable quantity of picked stone. A specimen ton of the stone, crushed with primitive appliances, yielded loz 3dwt, valued at £3 17s Gd per oz. The Maoris will not allow anyone on the claim, but they state that the stone looks more promising as the drive progresses.
At the rear of this claim a Taranaki syndicate, in putting in a level, discovered a reef about 14 feet wide. A ton of this was crushed and yielded 17dwt. Some stone exhibited in Thames, experienced miners say, is particularly good.
