SERIOUS BUSH FIRE.
FARMERS’ HOMES THREATENED. CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday. A bush lire which had its origin on a property at the head of the Blue Duck Valley swept for nearly three miles down the valley through heavily timbered country, and was a menace to farm houses in Hie fire’s path. Finally the Are burnt itself out in clearer land. Mr Ralph Smith and his farmily had an unenviable experience. The fire spread through grass right to his home, and it was only through the use of a hose and a fairly plentiful supply of water that his buildings were kept from catching fire. There were no losses of stock.
