BANKS DEFEAT LAW.

HIGH SCORING GAME. MARGIN OF THREE POINTS. The annual Rugby fixture, Banks v. Law, took place at Rugby Park yesterday, Banks gaining victory after a bright and interesting exhibition. The teams were:— Banks.—Duncan, Phillips, Cavaye, Hook, Potter. Heathcote, Latta, Horton, Fraser, Pilbrow, Partridge, Sonimervllle, Matthews, Andrews and Simpson. Law.—McCaw, Grace, Fitzgerald, Seccombe, Bremner, McMillan, McDell, Otto, Blyth, Hammond, Henry. Gillett, Ward, Harkness and Merchie. From Ihe kick-off the ball went to the Law's forwards who found touch at the 25 line. Banks pressed but Fitzgerald extricated Law with a bright run and transferred to McDell a few yards from Banks’ line but the movement was stopped. A free to Law in front of the posts allowed Gillett to goal nicely. Law 3 Banks 0

A clearing kick by Banks was well fielded by Gillett who went through to score, Banks evidently being under the impression that they were off-side. After the kick out from the 25 Hook took the ball down-field and a groundgaining movement by the Banks’ backs culminated in Potter scoring a deserving try. Law’ 14 Bank 6 Banks continued to press. Hook was again Io the fore when he picked up and cutting out several of the opposition passed to Potter. The latter went over to score his second try within a few minutes. Hook’s kick missed. Law 14 Banks 9 Banks made a determined effort to even the score, but good line kicking drove them back. Play continued up and clown field, a brisk wind being to lhe advantage of Banks. Potter was again in the lime-light when he drib bled lhe ball down field and picking up a few yards from the line, went oxer to score his third try. The kick failed. Law* 14 Banks 12 Banks continued to have the better of the exchanges. Hook picked up and ran through and scored. Heathcote’s kick was successful.
