It is announced that the persistent efforts of the research workers at the London Cancer Hospital have resulted in the discovery of a pure substance of known structure which produces cancer in a large and constant proportion of cases. This is considered as an advance of the first magnitude towards a knowledge of the combination of the factors which make the incidence of cancer possible. N.Z. DOCTOR'S OPINION. SUBSTANCE FROM TAR PRODUCT (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Thursday. Referring to a cablegram that research workers have discovered a pure substance lhat produces cancer in a large proportion of cases, Dr llegg, who is engaged in cancer research here, states that tie thinks it is probable that the discovery relates to a chemical substance from one of the tar products.
