Quotations are unchanged. HIDES AND SKINS. The hides and skins market, which has been steadily weakening throughout the year, reached its lowest point for many years at Auckland yesterday. There is practically no overseas demand, the weak stale of the market being attributed partly to the worldwide depression and partly to the fact that large stock%are being held overseas. At yesterday's sale large quantities of hides and skins were offered, particularly calfskins, which are now a seasonal line. There was a good bench of buyers, and the bidding was fair at the prices ruling. Hides were id to 5-8 d per lb cheaper Ilian a fortnight ago, and calfskins id to Id per lb cheaper. The rates for sheepskins remained about the same. There were no outstanding alterations for the other lines except in the case of bones, which dropped £1 a ton. Best cow hides made up to about 3 3-8 d per lb; ox, 3 5-8 d; kips and yearlings, 3}d; calfskins, 4jd; dried sheepskins, 3Jd; salted sheepskins, 2s 8d each. Best tallow made up to about 12s 6d a cwt., and bones £4 a ton. Inferior grades of hides and skins were very hard to quit. The trend of low prices is reported to be general throughout the Dominion. HORSE FAIR AT MATAMATA. The Farmers’ Go-operative Auctioneering Company, Ltd., report having held a horse fair at Matamata on Tuesday, when upwards of 100 horses of all classes came forward. There was a good attendance of buyers and competition was keen for reliable stamps of farm horses. Three-year unbroken horses made £l9, good medium draught farm horses £3O to £35, good 3,4, and 5 year old farm horses £lB 10s to £3O, aged Morses all work £9 to £2O 10s, hacks SI to £6 10s, Shetlands £7.
