The Grand National Steeplechase provided a spectacular contest the feature of which was a series of falls in the closing stages. Dark Prince led for three miles, displaying plenty of dash, although, he was not very happy at several fences. Snowfall, who had always been one of the closest to him, drew past him before the top brush and, as had happened in a schooling task last week, this fence proved Dark Prince's undoing, for he threw his rider. Bon Aryan had fallen at the second of the kennels double and Pangolin, who had also been well up, ran olf. Paris was left as Snowfall's only serious challenger, but although he struggled on gamely the effort of making up the lost ground told on him and Snowfall comfortably held him off. Lucess, too, finished very tired in third place. Copey plodded on fcr fourth, and then came Wiltshire, Matu, Omeo, Umtall and Tunamoe. Omeo never looked like winning. The hard ground found him out and it has been decided to give him a lengthy spell. The Winter Cup. Kahlkatoa, after meeting interference 4 J furlongs from home, won the Winter Cup in dashing style, Gray bringing him along in the straight to score handsomely. Rapid changes of leaders saw Rascal, Sharp Thorn. Great Star and then Knollmere prominent. and Knollmere led into the straight from Rational IL, Great Star, Sharp Thorn and On Top, with Kahlkatoa tucked in behind them, waiting to make his run. Ranelagh came-with spectacular dash from well back, but it was of no avail against Kahikatoa. Comprls also finished fast in third place, and then camo Red Boa, Rascal, Sharp Thorn, On Top and Dunraven. On Top gave a lot of trouble at Hie post, but got off fairly well. The runners carried the :apes with them for over three furlongs and this caused trouble to several horses, including Royal Saxon and High Pitch.
