The Earl and Countess of Strathmore are celebrating their golden wedding. The celebrations are overshadowed by the tear that the increasing taxation may result In the closing of their ancient seat Giamls Castle. Claud George Bowes-Lyon, 14 th Earl of Strathmore, Baron Giamls of Scotland (a title which dates from 1445), was born in 1855, and succeeded to Hie title in 1904. He married in 1881 Miss Cecilia CavendishBentinck. The Duke of York married his daughter, Lady Elizabeth BowesLyon, in 1923.
