MR & MRS ALLAN WILKIE.
NEW PLYMOUTH RECEPTION. The Victoria League at New Plymouth tendered Miss Hunter-Watts and Mr Allan Wilkie, the Shakespearean exponents, a welcome to New Plymouth. The president (Mrs C. H. Burgess) presided over a large attendance, and, in extending a hearty welcome to the distinguished visitors, mentioned the debt the community was under to them for the opportunity of learning more of the work and genius of the Immortal bard. Mr T. C. List associated himself with the welcome. Mr Allan Wilkie sincerely thanked the League for the honour they had done him and his wife by their kind reception. The theatrical profession was just now passing through a difficult period. It had done so before and survived. Besides the depression, however, the profession had now to contend with the talkies, which, it had to be admitted, were very popular. But he was confident that the stage
would again come Into Its own. During the afternoon, which proved very enjoyable, pianoforte solos and songs were contributed by Miss Broad and Madame Veta Cornwall.
