BROADCASTING COMPANY.

ITS FUTURE OPERATIONS. MORE INFORMATION WANTED. REQUEST BY BUSINESS MEN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A letter which has been forwarded to the Postmaster-General by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand states that owing to lack of full and detailed information of the operations of the present Broadcasting Company, under its existing license, the association Is unable to urge a specific policy on the Government In regard to the future conduct of broadcasting. If the Government intends itself to conduct the broadcasting business, the association urges that its conduct should be on lines identical with that by the British Broadcasting Corporation, which has all the privileges and responsibilities of a private company. If, however, it is Intended to grant a license similar to that existing. the association suggests that there should first he a full public disclosure of the operations of the present company under the existing license, and of the results of those ■operations. The association suggests that balance-sheets and a profit and loss statement of the present, company should be published, together with the fullest possible Information in regard to: (a) The capitalisation of the company: (b) the revenue and expenditure of the company; (c) 'the depreciation and reserve funds of the company; (d the transactions between the company and any allied companies. The association urges that the public, and more particularly listeners, who supply the means of carrying on the broadcasting business, are entitled to know fully how their license fees are expended, anl exactly what results have accrued to the company that is granted this monopoly and all its associates.
