REPLACING THE DESTROYED BRIDGE AT WAIROA. — For five months all vehicular traffic over the Wairoa River has been conveyed by punt, for such damage was done to the structure by the earthquake in February that repairs were out of the question. A start has now been made with the driving of piles for a new ferro-concrete bridge across the river. The old bridge and punt ferry are shown.
