The Paris journal's Madrid correspondent says that King Alfonso has been forced to agree to a decree surrendering all initiative in Governmental matters, tie will not interfere with tiie selection of Ministers or issue ordinances pending (lie decision of the Constituent Assembly.
It is believed that if the King had refused there would have been a general strike to-day. There have been no demonstrations up to the present. MADRID, Feb. 17.
The Republicans’ refusal to join Senor Guerra’s Cabinet is explained by t'heir statement “We don’t trust the King.” Professor Gallardon, Dean of the College of Lawyers, similarly declined, saying “it will be time enough to listen to'the proposals when the King abdicates.
