SALES ANNOUNCED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) A U C KLAND, Wednes day. The following sales took place on the Stock Exchange to-day:— Northern Steam con., 6s. Commercial Bank, 13s 4d. Government Loan, 4£ (1939), £94. A LULL THIS MORNING. NO SALES AT FIRST CALL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The improvement in the market tone yesterday was reflected in a fair number of sales recorded at the 3.15 p.m. call and later In the afternoon. Special features were the continued firmness in Bank of New Zealand shares, which changed hands at £2 5s Gd, and a further easing in Government tax-free 4£ per cents, which sold at £94, a drop of £2 since February 3. At the same call 5$ per cents maintained recent values, with a sale at £99 ss. There was a lull this morning, and no sales were recorded at the first call. Banks were largely neglected, though Australasias firmed a little with buyers at £8 10s and New Zealands were asked for at £2 5s 3d. Commercials were easier, with best buyers back to 13s 2d. Insurances were in steady demand, with 12s 7cl offered for Nationals, £1 16s for New Zealands, and £2 9s 3d for South British, all higher bids than yesterday. Standards were again wanted at £1 19s 6d. Wilson’s Cements steadied a little, with buyers at £1 15s 6d, while Colonial Sugars were easier at £29 7s Gd. In Government stocks £93 was the best offer l’or 4£ tax-frees', but £99 was still available for 51.
