CUTTING ADRIFT.
NEW AUSTRALIAN STATE. LANG’S POLICY DENOUNCED. SYDNEY, February 17. In launching a campaign for a new State in the northern portion of New South Wales, Dr. Earle Page, formerly Federal Treasurer, now leader of the Australian 'Country Party, at Glenreagh this evening, . said the farmers could no longer submit to the insidious domination of the extreme Labour element in Sydney. If the New South Wales Government defaulted to its bondholders, as was intended, this State would automatically put itself outside the Federal Union, and Air Lang would not he able to obtain further credit from the banks. He would have to adopt some emergency form of currency. The people in the north had no desire to be associated with Air Lang’s ‘•dishonourable repudiation scheme'’ and were preparing to cut adrift from New South Wales. They intended So appeal to the Federal Government for recognition as a provisional Government pending an adjustment of boundaries and liabilities and Parliamentary sanction. An appeal would also be made to the British Government for assistance in carrying out their object under the Separation Act of ISSO. IN BANKRUPTCY. A SHAREMILKER’S ESTATE. (Special to Times). CAAIBRIDGE, Tuesday. Proceedings in bankruptcy in the estate of Jasper Richard Anderson, sharemilker, of Karapiro, were heard at Cambridge yesterday. The statement of bankruptcy showed unsecured creditors, £l6B 0s 7d. Cash in hand was shown at £3 and furniture, £SO, leaving a deficiency of £lls 10s 7d.
In his statement bankrupt said his financial position started to go hack with the big slump following the war. He had a wife and three children to support. Ills position had subsequently been further affected by the serious illness of himself and the youngest child. In 1926 he came to the Waikato and was not able to make any progress and was forced to incur fresh debts. In 1927-28 season his earnings averaged £2 9s a week. _ After coming to Karapiro in July, 1929, his position improved a little, hut in February, 1930, he had more heavy medical expenses and was unable to make any provision for the winter months. Bankrupt agreed to give the Official Sssignee an order on part of his milk cheque, commencing next dairy season, to enable him to meet his creditors.
