HOARD CHAIRMAN.

DISQUALIFIED IN MORNING. RE-ELECTED IN EVENING. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, Saturday. Disqualified in the morning and reelected in the evening. This was the position in which Mr Leo Stein, chairman of the Dannevirke Hospital Board, found himself on Friday through a technical breach of the Act-by exceeding by 7s the amount stipulated in the Act for goods supplied to the board. It was explained that Mr Stein, who is a draper and chairman of the hoard, discouraged the'purchasing of goods for the hospital from his shop. When the hooks of the board were closed at the end of the financial year Mr Stein had supplied goods amounting to £7 Is 3d, representing separate items procured for the hospital from a wholesale firm which was unwilling to invoice the goods to the board direct. In addition, the matron of the hospital had procured goods amounting to £3 5s 9d, which were chargeable to a special fund, and were paid for after the year closed, although procured previous to March 31. This brought the total to £lO 7s, and resulted in Mr Stein being disqualified by the Auditor-General, as the amount exceeded the limit allowed by 7s. Notification of disqualification was only received that morning, and the council reappointed Mr Stein as its representative on the Hospital Board In the evening'. Meanwhile, presumably, the Hospital Board is without a chairman.
