POLO.

THE MATANGI CLUB. OFFICIAL OPENING HELD. The offiical opening of the Matangi Polo Club was held on the club’s ground on Saturday afternoon, a very large crowd the function. The majority of the clubs throughout the district were represented, while members from the Whangarei and Bay of Islands Clubs were also present. During the afternoon many practice games were held, many of them proving very exciting. The players all seemed to be on form and the mounts were looking particularly fresh. Mr W. Franklin, the president of the club, extended a hearty welcome to the many present, and remarked that he hoped to see as many watching the games during the season. The speaker added that lire Matangi Club had a very successful season last year, and the prospects for the coming year were very bright. They had a good many new young members, and the majority of the older members were back to lead them.

A delightful afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the club.
