Waikato Hunt Labour Day Meeting KEEN INTEREST IN MONDAY’S RACING AT CAMBRIDGE. Splendid Contest Promised in the Main Event Over Country. FLYING PRINCE LOOKS THE DANGER TO THE TOP-WEIGHTS IN THE MEMBERS’ MEMORIAL. (By “Martian.”) On Monday next (Labour Day) the annual race programme of the Waikato Hunt will be held at the Cambridge racecourse. Excellent stakes are given at this fixture and the response from owners is always good. As the occasion is a public holiday, patronage to the coming meeting can. he expected to he of the extensive order, with the wide support from all parts of the province, supplemented by the presence of many visitors from northern districts. A feature of the racing set down for Monday will be the cross-country events. A fine field of steeplechasers has been attracted to the Waikato Hunt Cup and a thrilling race over the three miles is promised. The leading flat item of the card is the Members’ Memorial , Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter, in which there are a dozen acceptors, while sixteen sprinters are listed for the Bollard Memorial Handicap, of six; and a-half furlongs. The track will be holding as the outcome of the recent rains, but it should be in good going order nevertheless. The secretary (Mr. Walter Stopford) has arrangements well advanced and indica- . tions point to another successful gathering being recorded from all points of view. ■ ■

Maori Boy ..90 The leading event on the flat has attracted Mervette ... 8 8 twelve runners and a good race should be provided Flying Prince 7 7 In the ten-furlong trip. Maori Boy has a solid imMotere .74 post, but he has mastered the journey and if he gets Black Matre 7 1 a yielding track the prospects of the Lucullus geldGay Cockade 7 c ing will be enhanced. Mervette, who is also in good Luminary ..70 condition for the task ahead, is another of the Transformer 7 0 Lucullus stock which are partial to soft ground. She The Bun ... 7 0 should go well, although some will query her ability Unoco ... 7 0 to run out the final stages. Flying Prince has won val street ..70 at the distance and also likes it yielding. The going Ohinemuri . . 7 0 will make him a real danger -to the top-weights. Motere and Black Maire both show staying pretensions the latter being third last year. Their light weights will assist them. Gav Cockade is very well, but the grade is new to him. Luminary and Valstreet will be pacemakers and if they can stay either might win. Transformer is past his best. Of those lower down Ohinemuri makes the most appeal. When totalisator adjustments are made they may point to FLYING PRINCE, MAORI BOY and MERVETTE. 2,55 WAIKATO HUNT CUP STEEPLECHASE, Of £SOO and a Gold Cup valued at lOOsovs; st. lb. about 3 miles. The Formative geiding Copey .... 10 0 is a genuine stayer and for that reason must be Pendavles . . 912 considered. Importer won and lost this race last Scaramouche 9 ll -season. Pikimal comes with good credentials and the Wako King . 9 4 Southerner, if this is selected for him in preference Twinkier ..90 to the hurdles, will have a big following. Spalpiko, Kiwinui ... 9 0 not over-confident at his fences lately, would have a Thirl ..... 9 0 chance if he went right. Foxhound had a win and Lovely Boy .90 a second at Ellerslie this month. St. Warrigal is a Cullgie ... 9 0 promising young jumper who offers particularly good prospects. Copey was lucky to win at Eilerlie, ( but it is in his favour that he is well. Pendavies would be particularly hard to beat if he did it right as he is handily weighted. Scaramouche and Soami are possibilities. Akbar and Senora have come from the South for the job, a lead which many will follow. Of the remainder Thirl looks the best prospect. The investments promise to take a wide range, but a trio due to be prominent in this respect are IMPORTER. PENDAVIES and ST. WARRIGAL. ;
