INTOXICATED MOTORIST.

STRANDED ON ROAD. FINE OF £3 IMPOSED. At the Magistrate’s Court, Cambridge, on Thursday, before Messrs H. A. Bell and S. R. James, J.’sP., David Jorgensen, who stated that his home was in Masterton, was charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car. Accused pleaded guilty. Constable Jones stated that accused was seen driving his car in a zig-zag manner through the main street of Cambridge at about 5.30 on Wednesday evening. Later, as a result of information received, witness visited a spot on the Hamilton-'Cambridge road, about four miles from Cambridge, where he found accused standing beside a motor car which had come to a standstill for the want of benzine. There were two men in the back seat of the motor car, who appeared to be asleep. Accused, who was decidedly the worse for liquor, admitted that he was in charge of the car. Two bottles of liquor were found in the car. Accused said he did not wish to make excuses, hut he had never been in trouble before, and he l'eh tae position very keenly. The Bench, in fining accused £3, said they took a very serious view of such offences, and it was their duty to make the road safe for everyone to drive on.
