MINES TO BE MANNED.
AUSTRALIAN COLLIERIES. AGREEMENT REACHED. WAGES REDUCED. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. SYDNEY, May 22. A complete agreement for a resumption of worltdn the northern coalmines was reached at Newcastle to-day between the owners and the miners’ representatives. Work is to be commenced in all the idle mines on Wednesday. The questions of withdrawing free labour from the Rothbury and Northumberland mines, the remission of fines and the release of the imprisoned miners are to be discussed with the Premier, Mr T. R. Bavin, to-morrow. It is not anticipated that any hitch will occur. The terms of the settlement with the miners have not been announced, but .it is known that they have accepted reduced wages and have agreed to .eliminate petty, stoppages.
