Play was resumed at one o’clock. The slippery ball hampered the bowlers, and the attack was entrusted to the slow bowlers, Stevens and Peebles. The conditions after lunch still favoured the batsmen. Jackson reached his first 50 of the tour by hitting Peebles for G. Shortly afterwards he cut the ball hard to Ilendren at short slip. Kippax arid Ponsford batted confidently before they. gave easy catches. Richardson was shaky from the start, and Grimmett’s wicket was shattered after a vigorous innings. Then Allen also bowled Wall, but interest had vanished from the match, which, like the previous fixture, was interesting for two days and then ended tamely. The Australian, cricketers will today begin a match against Derbyshire. Derbyshire last year was seventh in the county championship. The Team played 28 matches, won 10, lost six, won eight on the first innings and lost three, and in one there was no result. Towmsend, Slater and Worthington were the best all-round players, and Storer headed the batting averages. Worthington was with the English team in New Zealand last season.
