SCALING THE HIMALAYAS.

KANCRENJUNGA EXPEDITION.

DEPARTURE FROM DARJEELING

DARJEELING, April 14

The last detachment of the Ivanchenjunga expedition has begun its journey after several days’ delay owing to monetary complications. A sudden change in the route necessitated a much larger equipment in the way of mule transport, kit and food, for which there were not sufflcent funds. These Professor G. 0. Dyhrenfurth, leader of the expedition, alone could supply. He had already started, however, and as he had not left a power of attorney an express messenger had to be sent after him on foot to track him through the mountains.

The messenger travelled at incredible speed and overtook Professor Dyhrenfurth. lie obtained his signature to the needful documents and was back at Darjeeling inside 48 hours.
