VALEDICTORY.

MARIST OLD BOY FAREWELLED. A POPULAR FOOTBALLER. On the occasion of his departure from the district Mr J. E. Fitz-Gerald, a member of the Marist Football Club last season, was presented with a handsome gold watch after the annual meeting of the club last evening. The president (Mr P. Kelly), in making the presentation on behalf of the players, paid a tribute to Mr FitzGerald’s behaviour both on , and off the field. Not only was he an able player, hut a thorough gentleman. Mr Kelly wished the recipient every success in liis new work, and hoped that he would always look hack with pleasure on his happy associations with the Rugby gamo in tho town. In returning thanks Air Fitz-Gerald assured the president that he would always consider his association with the club ono of the most enjoyable periods of his lifo. If his work permitted his participation in football again he would be loyal to tho green and white jersey.
