PUKEMIRO NOTES.

Children’s Party. On Thursday evening Mrs Clay gave a jolly birthday party to her little Gisborne visitor, Olive Hannah. The children played old time-honoured indoor games and then partook of u delicious tea, the chief feature of which was a big birthday cake ornamented with five candles. The breakfast room had been tastefully decorated with balloons and streamers, to which were pinned celluloid dolls dressed to match the colour scheme. At the conclusion of the evening the dolls and balloons were distributed among the guests. The children present were: Jessie Aspinall, Jean Brown, Eva Hannah, Olive Hannah, Jean Clay, Jean Flemming, Mary Clay, and Masters George Clay, Pat Kelly, Brian Kelly and Jim Kelly.

Bachelors’ Ball. One of the most successful halls of the season was given by the bachelors of Pukemiro on Friday evening in the Miners’ Union Hall. The iloor was in first-class condition for dancing and the delightful music was played by Allen’s orchestra. About 400 people were present and many beautiful frocks were worn. A fitting setting for the dainty frocks was provided by the multi-coloured streamers which gave to the hall a very gala appearance. Two perfect nikau palms spread their leaves on either side of the stage, effectively screening the orchestra. The supper-room had also been decorated by the energetic bachelors, and the tables were laden with delectable dainties. All present enjoyed themselves, and dancing was continued into the small hours of the morning. The committee, who are to be congratulated on the success of the evening, were Messrs T.
