CLAIM FOR LOST DOG.

A PECULIAR CASE. PLAINTIFF AWARDED £lO. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Tuesday. A somewhat novel claim for the value (£10) of a dog occupied the attention of Mr P. H. Ilarner, S.M.. at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The action, which was undefended, was between Dorothy L. Ilueston (Gisborne) and Mabel Christmas (Wellington). Counsel for plaintiff explained that the claim was for the value of a dog sent by plaintiff to defendant for treatment. The dog was suffering from an injury to an eye. After sending the dog, the first news Miss Hueston heard was when she received a letter from Miss Christmas to the effect that the dog was lost. She stated it had jumped a wire fence 6ft high. Plaintiff wrote back not accepting the explanation, and on August 5 received a telegram stating the dog was being shipped to Gisborne for identification. When the animal arrived Miss Hueston found that it was not hers and it was shipped back. Since then she had heard nothing further. Formal evidence was given by the plaintiff and the Magistrate entered judgment for the amount claimed and costs.
