“ MARKED ” HEIFERS.

SALE AT CLAUDELANDS. OFFERINGS OF PEDIGREE STOCK. FIRST OF KIND IN DOMINON. The first special sale of “ marked ” stock in the Dominion which is intended to be the first of an annual series, was hold in the Claudelands Show Pavilion to-day, before a good bench of buyers. The 40 Jersey and Friesian “ marked ” heifers offered were by pedigree bulls from dams tested under the group system, with a production of 3001 b of fat or over, taken over a bine-monthly period. The offering also included 35 pedigree Jersey yearling heifers and eight pedigree Friesian yearlings. The show for Jersey heifers held prior lo the sale, in which Mr. W. H. Miers officiated as judge, resulted: Singles: Mr. W. T. Luxlon’s Bidgwny Princess Gay, 1; Mr. F. S. Veale s Sunset of Tamahere, 2; Mr. F. S. Vcale’s Gem of Tamahere, 3. Pairs: Mr. W. T. Luxton, 1; Mr. F S Veale, 2; Mr. R. Evans, 3. Group of Five: Mr. W. T. Luxton, 1; Mr. R. Evans, 2. •Mr. W. T. Luxton’s success, is a most meritorious one when it is remembered that he secured the silver cup for the best group at the National Jersey Sale last year against some of the leading breeders of the Waiato. Mr. C. E. Robertson, stud stock manager of Wright, Stephenson and Co., in his opening remarks, apologised for the non-appearance of a number of 11 marked ” heifers that were to have come forward). Of the 30 head enlored, only 40 had reached the salering. The sale provided an ideal opportunity of securing daughters of proved producers and it. was with the object, of providing farmers with this type of stock that this offering of ” marked ” heifers had been inaugurated. Of the 35 head of pedigree Jersey heifers catalogued, the 20 knocked dwon to the hammer averaged a little over 18gns. The sale commenced with the offering of pedigree heifers.
