BREAKING AND ENTERING.

TWO YOUNG MEN CHARGED. ONE PLEADS GUILTY. (By Telegraph.—Press' Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Laurence Desmond Tanner, aged 20, and George Albert Proudfoot, aged 23, room-mates, were jointly . charged with breaking and entering a ■ shop and stealing cigarette tobacco valued at £5 8s 4d. Tanner was also charged with breaking and entering two business premises with intent to commit Lheft, and with being found without lawful excuse in possession ■of house-breaking instruments. The charges arose out of Tanner ■■being found at night inside the door .of York Chambers, in Manners 'Street, by a constable who noticed it open. Tanner pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. He said kProudfoul had never actually assisted in the offences.

The latter, who pleaded not guilty, ■was committed for trial.
