HEAVY RAIN.

PASTURES GREATLY BENEFIT. STILL MORE REQUIRED.

RECORD GRASS SEED SALES. The dairy season in South Auckland so far has been backward compared with spring of last year. This was the result of the dearth of rain and the cold drying winds experienced. Yesterday and during the night very welcome rain fell. The downpour was heavy and will do- a remarkable amount of good. There has not been enough of it, however, but should a further 21 hours’ fall occur it would he sufficient to 'cause dairymen to look forward to another record season. There have been unusually large sales of grass seeds for spring sowing, indicating the breaking in of large additional areas of pasture lands. About half an inch of rain was recorded at Ruakura for the 24 hours ended 9 o'clock this morning. Reports from other portions of the province show that the welcome rain was fairly general.
