N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.

KING COUNTRY SUB-PROVINCIAL. FORMED AT OTOROHANGA. At an enthusiastic gathering of members fof the Otorohanga branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union the King Country Sub-Provincial Union was formed. Mr A. D. Robinson, the Auckland provincial secretary, was in attendance and addressed the gathering on matters of general interest to the farming community. It was decided to embrace Kawhia South, Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, Waimeha, Aria, Kopaki, Mapiu, Mokauiti and Rangitoto in the King Country SubUnion. The headquarters will be at Otorohanga. The following were elected as the principal executives: —President, Mr V. Simms (Otewa); vice-presidents, Messrs A. A. Ellis (Otewa), 11. A. Lurman (Rangiatea) and C. E. Middleton (Waimiha). A resolution was carried that the General Manager of Railways be urged to extend the revision of freights from Auckland to the Northern King Country, at least as far as Taumarunul, as Auckland was the principal source of supply for this territory. It was decided that in the opinion nf this executive the users of the roads should pay for them, and that the time has arrived when agricultural lands should be derated. A remit was passed that the Government be urged to open pumice lands which are adjacent to tha railway line in the Kopaki, Waimiha and Ongarue districts, which were well suited to intensive farming practices. It was resolved that the method of construction of all rural telephone lines should be revised in view of the fact that new roads which would be followed would shorten the distance considerably, reduce the rentals, and give better service. It was resolved to strenuously oppose the proposed legislation for the increase in land tax and super tax on large estates for the purpose of raising revenue. The principle of income tax only was affirmed.
