Poreonal. Mrs F. Goodwin of Auckland, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs Kemp, has returned home. Miss D. Priestly, of Hamilton, has been the guest of Mrs J. Connew. Mrs Tollon, -who has been visiting Rotorua for her. health, has returned to her daughter, Mrs T. Jackson. The Weather. The continued spell of dry weather is having an adverse eQ’ect on the pastures and a good soaking downpour is badly needed by the farmers. Many residents are already short of water, and the position will become acute unless rain falls shortly. Bowling. The local bowling green is looking particularly well, and the efforts of the members have resulted in a fine turf. During the week-end a few of the members were-frying out the rinks preparatory to the opening. Arrangements for the Bowling Club's concert and dance have been finalised.

Church. The Methodist service on Sunday evening was conducted by Mr Gilling, of Hamilton, before a very fair congregation. Band of Hope. The Anal meeting of the local Band of Hope for this season is announced for Friday evening. Colds. Colds and sore throats have been very prevalent lately among adults and children. The attendance at the school has suffered somewhat severely this month on that account.

School Committee. At the monthly meeting of the school committee Mr J. K. Brown occupied the chair, and there was a full attendance of members. The secretary reported that the entrance had been asphalted and that the appearance was much improved thereby. Some discussion took place re a new fence or wall for the garden, but the matter was deferred for financial reasons. The headmaster reported that the average attendance had fallen off owing to sickness. The headmaster was authorised to procure the necessary materials for marking out the tennis courts. Local Industry. Great satisfaction Is felt locally at the buying of a half-share in tne Waipa railway and rolling stock by the Wilton Collieries and to the chairman's report that work on the branch fine and screens will commence shortly at the soulh-western end of the township. it is felt that the advent of this work will be of considerable benefit to the township.
