REGIMENTAL BAND.

CONCERT IN FRANKTON.

BAND FUNDS BENEFIT. AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME. The Frankton Town Hall was comfortably filled last night, when a successful concert was staged by Miss Mavis Laurenson and a company of assisting artists. The proceeds of the concert, will be devoted to augment the funds of the Waikato Regimental and Hamilton Municipal Band, and they should benefit considerably.

The programme, which was long and varied, was much enjoyed and every item was well received. The greater part -of the entertainment consisted of fancy dancing, by Miss Mavis Laurenson and her pupils. Several selections were played by the band, under the baton of Sergeant Major M. K. Mara. Popular numbers were violin solos by Mr. R. Compton, who played “Phantom Melody,” (Ketelby), “Monte Christo Waltz” (Istvan Kotvar), “Souvenir,” (Drdla)*. and “Liebesleid,” (Kriesler). His first number particularly was much appreciated. A young vocalist with a sweet and appealing voice was Miss Elsie Hayes. 1 Her singing of “Till We Meet Again”! and “Lazy Mississippi” held her! audience and earned for her warm ap- i plause. Perhaps the most humorous] and original item was the - Nigger/ Dance by a little girl, Bona Tombs.] Dressed and coloured to represent her] part, she performed most amusing; antics, and was a great success. Be-j sides taking part in several of the ballets, Miss Mavis Laurenson presented a difficult Russian dance, which called for much exertion, hut she gave an excellent interpretation, and had to respond to an insistent encore. The ballets were very pretty, and the dressing most effective, especially in “Chinatown.” Another young singer who gave a good account of herself was Alician Lalbrum. She sang seveeral solos, and incidental musio in the ballets. The programme, which Was organised by Miss Mavis Laurenson and Mr. J. Brooks, was one of the best seen in Frankton for some considerable tim?, and, judging by the applause, the audience appreciated the afforts of the performers. A word of praise is due to Mr. R. Gibbs and Miss E. Crompton, who officiated at the piano. At Ihe conclusion of the concert a large number of tokens of appreciation were handed to the performers.
