OUTBREAK AT FAIRFIELD. A TOTAL LOSS. ESCAPE IN NIGHT ATTIRE. A six-roomed house occupied by Mr E. J. Wills, butcher, Frankton, and owned by Mr G- W. Ross, of Matamata, was destroyed by fire at 3 o'clock this morning. Mr Wills, his wife and three children had barely time to escape in their night attire. ' The house was situated at the corner of Clarkin's Road and River Road. The fire, the cause of which is unknown, originated at the rear of the house, and soon had a strong hold. Nothing was saved. The furniture was insured for £350. The outbreak being out of the Fire Brigade’s area, no alarm was given. The house was insured for £7OO in the Home Insurance Company and the outbuildings for £2O in the same office. OUTBREAK AT NGARUAWAHIA. (Special to Times.) NGARUAWAHIA, Monday. An outbreak of fire occurred on Saturday afternoon in the wash-house adjacent to the residence of Mr William Payne. Fortunately the brigade were on the scene in record time, and although a gale was blowing at the time the fire was very soon under control. VALUABLE CURIOS DESTROYED. HASTINGS, Saturday. An eight-roomed house at Havelock North, owned by Mr H. D. Hill, was burnt to the ground. The fire is said to have originated by an electric .motor fusing. Nothing was saved except a piano. Many valuable curios were lost. The insurances were:—On the house, £450, and on the contents, £550, in the Northern Office.
