FAIRFIELD AFFAIRS.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE SET UP SUCCESS OF LAST SEASON. There was a fairly large gathering at a meeting held in the Fairfield School last evening to discuss social matters in aid of the school funds, and the tendering of a welcome Lo the new headmaster. Mr Mead occupied the chair. It was decided to conduct socials during the season. The chairman remarked that the socials held last year returned a nett profit of £24 odd, vthich was used in establishing a school library-
Mesdames Kelly, Sherley, Grainey, Williams,. Rollo, Miss Booth, and Messrs Mead, Grainey, Rollo and Sberley were elected as a social committee, with Mrs Kelly as secretary of the club. Mr Wake was appointed doorkeeper, Messrs Sherley and Kelly joint M.G.’s, and Messrs Grainey and Rollo to take charge of the euchre room.
Mr Mead said that the school committee recommended that the socials should commence on the 25th inst'., and that the same night be utilised to welcome the new headmaster. A motion on these lines was carried. It was further resolved that dances should start at 7-30 p.m. sharp and finish at 1 i. 30 p.m. It was decided that no cards should be played on the first evening, when the headmaster is to be welcomed, but that musical items should be substituted. Arrangements for the musical items weer left to Mrs Sherley. It was decided that the male members of the committee should pay the full fee to enter the socials, and the lady members be allowed to pass providing they brought a basket. Engagement of caterers and a dance orchestra were discussed, and final arrangements were left to Mrs Kelly.
