MORE FLOODS
COMMUNICATION INTERRUPTED. LINES AND ROADS BLOCKED. • ' AUCKLAND, Monday. Serious interruption to road and rail traffic has been caused by slips and flooding in the districts immediately north of Swanson. Several slips on the railway line between Swanson and Rewiti effectually blocked trains yesterday afternoon and evening, while the main north road is flooded at Kumeu and Waimauku.
AT MERCER. THE WATER RECEDESFlood waters in the Mercer district receded steadily during the week-end, although the rainfall yesterday morning checked the fall. The river is still Gft. 7in. above the normal level. Motor-cars have been towed through the flooded stretch of road, but they should now be able to.proceed without help. There is now little water on Lhe railway tracks. GAJ-E AT THAMES. THAMES, Sunday. A south-easterly gale developed in Thames Valley at midnight and has raged furiously to-day, accompanied by driving rain, which, late this evening showed no sign of abatement. After viewing the flooded areas in the Tirohia-Aotokohu district Mr 0. G. Thornton, resident engineer of the Public 'Works Department, afforded needed relief to an inundated area of approximately 5000 acres by dynamiting about 15yds of the Waihou River stopbank near the junction of the Ohinemuri River. The main road from Pacroa to Te Aroha is blocked to vehicular traffic.
