OUR PRODUCE IN LONDON

BETTER TONE IN BUTTER. INCREASED BRISKNESS IN DEALING CHEESE MORE HOPEFUL. —.—f—(Australian Press Association.) LONDON, April 21. There arc at last signs of a recovery in the butter trade, and dealings in Australian and New Zealand in the last few days have boon brisker than for a long time, although they are slid not so good as importers could wish. Buyers seem at last to lie beginning to realise that allhough shipments from New Zealand have been heavy, nearly 230.000 boxes having arrived here in March, supplies from the Dominion for the next two or three months will be materially lighter than they were last year, and it is expected that many buyers •who have been holding off will soon have to replenish their stocks. The position of the cheese market is also more hopeful. For the past two months buyers have been dependent mainly on New Zealand imports, which have been slightly above the actual consumptive requirements, and consequently prices eased somewhat. Considerably less will arrive from New Zealand during the next few months, and supplies arc likely to be small until toward the end of June, when the first heavy shipments of Canadian cheese should arrive. Consequently traders anticipate an improvement in business. PRODUCERS’ ASSOCIATION CABLE. LATEST QUOTATIONS. WELLINGTON, Sunday.
