ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.
A DISASTROUS SEASON. WELLINGTON, Sunday. According to the 37th annual report of the New Zealand Football Association the last season was the most disastrous in the history of the association. The report shows that 558 teams (including school teams) have affiliated with the association and that there are 6138 actual players. The loss on the year’s working amounted to £2136 14s Bd. During the year the association experienced great difficulty in getting grounds for play. It is hoped that the funds will be built up again as a result of judicious selection of overseas tours in the future, and careful control ol the expenditure. The Wellington Association was the strongest in the Dominion. SOUTH AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the South Auckland Football Association was held in the Winter Show Buildings or Saturday. Delegates from clubs throughout the area attended in full strength, together with a sprinkling of enthusiasts. Mr F. S. Carr welcomed the delegates to the gathering. The annual report and accounts foi the season 1927 were received and adopted after brief discussion. Officers for the coming season were elected as follows: —Patron, Dr. II Douglas; president, Mr John McKinnon; vice-presidents, Messrs Carr Burley, Campbell, Cox, Ilowden Clark, Bent, Sykes, Shat lock ant George; hon. secretary and treasurer Mr Geo. Cox; management committee, Messrs Baillie, Latimer, McKinley, Meade, Baird, Woodhall and Cook auditor, Mr W. 11. Allen. A vote of thanks and apprccialior of the services rendered the code generally by the secretary, togcthei with an honorarium of £lO 10s, wat unanimously passed, the chairman anc several delegates eulogising the capability of this official. The South Auckland Referees’ Association is to lie asked to conduct an examination at an early date foi local referees. The following recommendations tc the Management Committee were made:—That the season officially commence on Saturday next, April 28 and that the fixthre list be arranged as far ahead .as possible. A recommendation from the Goldfields Sub-Association for a reduction in their affiliation fees is also to be considered by the committee. Mr Bowron (Iluntly) reported or the lack of interest shown by the senior clubs in regard to junior football, and appealed to the committee to enlist the help of the senior clubs. As the N.Z. Schools’ Championship will he decided this season at Iluntly the delegates from that area asked that the South Auckland F.A. should assist towards the entertainment oi the visitors from the various centres, Mr Geo. Cox was appointed to represent the Association at the annuai meeling of the New Zealand Football Association, which will be held ir Wellington on Friday next, and lie will also represent the South Auckland Referees’ Association at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Referees Association, which will he held on the evening of the same day.
