An opossum trapper in the Grey district suggests that the season for taking opossums should he put forward two months, and closed two months taler than the present regulations (says Ihe Greymouth Evening Star). His reason for making the suggestion is that he has caught mother opossums in his traps, which were carrying their young in their pouch. As the kittens were too young to look after themselves they would probably die of exposure. A large number of young opossums must, have been lost in this way. He mentioned that opossums were not over plentiful last season, and if the present decrease continued; it may be necessary, in order to afford the animals a chance of natural increase, to declare a close season, for at least a year.
