I Creation of Waikato Diocese.
Brief reference to the creation of the Diocese of Waikato as a result of the commission appointed for the purpose by synod In 1925 was made by the Primate in his' address at the opening of synod. The new diocese, he pointed out, came into being on April 1, 1926.
“In welcoming Bishop Cherrington with the clerical and lay representatives of the new diocese,” said the Archbishop, “I would remind them of the great privilege and equally great responsibility which rests upon them as pioneers in what to the present generation of churchmen in New Zealand is a new experiment. The representatives of the new diocese will need patience and wisdom, together with the help of the - prayers of the faithful throughout the province.”
