THE WAIKATO CLUB.
MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the Waikato Trotting Club, held' last evening, was attended by Messrs J. Teddy, W. A. Jordan, H. E. Tristram, G. A. Capamagian, A. Livingstone, A. B. Cassidy, T. Clarkin, S. J. Rawlinson, W. Carr, 11. Burch, J. Dalgleish, D. D. Wilson, Campbell Johnstone and A. J. Smith (secretary). Mr Teddy, the senior vice-president, occupied the chair,
Welcome Extended. The chairman extended a welcome In Mr Burch, who had been recently appoinled io Ihe executive, and remarked upon the fact, that Mr Burch had previously served in a similar capacity and had done good service in the interests of ihe club and trotting. Mr Burch thanked the chairman for his remarks, and flie committee for Ihe honour of appointing him to the executive. He said that during his term of olTice he vvould always endeavour to co-operate with the executive in carrying out the duties that have been entrusted to litem by the members of the club. Mr Burch added that he would carry out his part fearlessly, being fully conscious that whatever action lie may take would !»e, lo the best of bis belief, in the best interests of the club and its members.
Application for Ground. In granting permission (subject to the consent of Ihe Agricultural and Pastoral Association) lo the Hamilton Harriers’ Club to use Claudelands on Saturday, April 28, the applicants are to be informed that it is the opinion of Ihe commillec that Steele Park would be more suitable. ' An application by the Girl Guides’ Association for the use of Claudelands to hold a rally in Hamilton on May 12 was declined.
Waipa’s Application. The Waipa Racing Club advised that it was proposed to apply for a second permit for a race meeting to be held on Saturday, May 4, 1929. It was asked if the date would clash with any proposed fixture of the Trotting Club. The matter was referred to the secretary to frame a reply.
Caretaker’s Appreciation. The club’s caretaker (Mr W. 11. Rouse), in returning thanks to the club for a cheque and a letter of appreciation of his work at Claudelands, stated that it was gratifying to know that the club was pleased with the results so far, and lie could promise that, given a favourable season, the club would have reason lo be proud of their grounds and track when the December meeting comes round.
Action Endorsed. The secretary' of the New Zealand Trotting Association advised that at the last meeting of the -Board the action of the Waikato Club in lining J. Shaw £lO for careless driving of Native Prince at the March meeting was endorsed.
Undue Use of the Whip.
The _ secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Association advised that at the last meeting a case of undue use of the whip was reported against which a complaint had been made by Ihc Inspector of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The offender was fined £2 by the club, but the Board decided to increase the amount to £5 as showing its disapproval of such treatment and an indication to horsemen that the practice should be discontinued.
The meeting expressed approval of the line of action taken by the head body of the sport.
Finance Committee.
A Finance Committee, consisting of the chairman and Messrs Capamagain and Burch was set up. Mr Burch was elected a member of the Grounds Committee, vice Mr Reid.
