THE EGYPTIAN TREATY.
CANADA'S ANNOUNCEMENT.
NOT CONSIDERED PREMATURE
(Received March 30, 2.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, March 20
There is no comment here on the announcement of Canada's xttitude toward the treaty between Britain and Egypt.
Speaking in Ihe House of Commons, the Premier said: "Within the lastfew months the Government was asked, in regard to the treaty being negotiated, whether Canada would hecome a party to the terms of the. treaty, which involved sanctions and contemplated military allowances. The Government replied: We do not believe the Parliament, of Canada would approve of such a treaty, and if Britain and Egypt can work out a treaty along the lines proposed, well and good, but, as far as Canada is concerned wo do not feet it in the interests of the British Empire or of the larger place which it was hoped the treaty would serve, that this country he asked to become a party to it.' The British Government immediately accepted our view in reference thercNo suggestion is made in Canada that the Premier's announcement was premature.
