SOME STRONG PROTESTS

GOES TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.

(Received March 30, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 20

The Lower House of the Convocation of Canterbury endorsed the Prayer Book by 126 votes to i 8; compared with 16S to 23 last year.

The Lower House of the Convocation of York endorsed it by 5. r > votes to JO, compared with OS votes to 10.

Former supporters, who now opposed it, 'protested against changes concerning the reservation, fasting powers, and parochial and also protested against the Convocation allowing itself to be influenced by the House of Commons. When supporters of the. Book urged the wisdom of making the pro-Book majorities the largest possible, with a view to improving the prospects of the Book passing the House of Commons adversaries replied that no attention should be paid to what may happen in Parliament. The pro-Book speakers said they viewed with alarm the effect upon the House of Commons if majorities within the Convocation diminished.

The Book now goes to the National Church Assembly for final approval before submission to Parliament.
