GRAND CONCERT.

A GREAT SUCCESS. BY ST. MARY'S CHOIR. The Catholic concert in the Town Hall last evening was one of the most enjoyable that has been held in Hamilton for some time. The hall was crowded and the programme, a varied one, was well received by the large audience. The choruses by the Convent senior pupils were a bright feature of the programme, and added interest was lent by the appearance of Miss Gladys Denz and pupils, who can always practically assure the success of any concert. The Harmonic Four were given a great reception, and were twice recalled. The concert marked the initial appearance of the St. Mary's Church choir, which gave excellent renderings of " The Heavens are Telling " (Haydn) and "Gloria in Excelsis" (Mozart), securing good tone and balance. Miss Dulcie Evans delighted the audience with her enjoyable rendering of " Angus McDonald " and with her recall number, " The Magic Month of May." Master J. Jordan, in violin selections, showed great talent, and was a favourite with the audience, while Miss Denz in elocutionary items, justified her popularity. The other performers were equally successful, and the Orphans' Orchestra gave the finishing touches to a pleasant evening. The committee has every reason to be gratified with the success achieved, and is to be congratulated on the splendid arrangements. The programme included: Orphans' Orchestra, " Poet and Peasant," "Light Cavalry"; Convent senior pupils, " Blow, Blow, Southern Wind," tambourine song and dance; Irish Jig (dance duo). E. Belincoe and B. Sanderson; Master Jordon, violin selections; Miss Dulcie Evans (songs) " Angus McDonald " and " The Magic Month of May"; Harmonic Four, " Sittin' by the Fire," " Go, Ask Papa," " Mother Hubbard." " The Way of the World" ("Funiculi, Fun'icula"); Miss Gladys Denz, elocutionary items; St. Mary's Church Choir, " The Heavens are Telling " and Gloria in Excelsis"; E. Pearce and chorus, action song, " The Merry Jap"; Miss Gladys Denz and ballet, sailors' hornpipe; piano duet, "March Militaire." Miss E. Pearce and Mr Salter: Mrs H. C. Gregory, monologue; Mr F. E. Mason, bass solos. Mr J. T. Battersby ably conducted the choir and acted in conjunction with Miss M. Dold, was at the piano.
